FROM SESSION TO ARTWORK: WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOUR FAMILY PHOTOS ARE TAKEN.
Planning your family portrait session is exciting, and knowing what comes next can help you feel confident throughout the process. Every photographer has a slightly different process after the camera is put away, but we believe the experience is just as important as the portraits themselves. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what happens after your session with us at Jean Johnson Portraits.
Step 1: Safely Backing Up Your Family Photos
Immediately after your family portrait session, your images are carefully loaded and backed up in multiple secure locations. We actually don't erase any SD cards (the memory cards used in our cameras) until your portraits and prints have been delivered. Protecting your memories is our first priority.
Step 2: Culling & Preparing Your Proofs
Next, we thoughtfully review your session and select the strongest images. We remove any portraits that aren't up to our photographic standards while also choosing the best expressions and poses of your family. Each portrait is lightly adjusted for brightness, color, and consistency so it's ready for your family photo viewing and ordering appointment.
Step 3: Designing Custom Family Wall Art & Albums
Before your viewing, we begin designing personalized digital previews. This includes family photo albums and custom wall art layouts, helping you visualize exactly how your portraits will look in your home.
Step 4: Your Family Photo Ordering Session
After your session, we'll meet for your personalized ordering appointment, where you'll see your fully curated gallery for the first time. Together, we'll choose your favorite images, design custom albums, and select wall art that fits beautifully in your home, whether that's a gallery wall, a statement piece, or something in between. Our goal is to make the process feel simple and enjoyable while helping you create a collection of family portraits that feels cohesive, timeless, and meaningful for your family.
Step 5: Professional Editing & Retouching
Once your selections are finalized, your chosen images are professionally edited. Each portrait is carefully retouched. Our goal is to edit away distractions while enhancing the focus and color of the most important part of every portrait… you!
Step 6: Proofing Your Family Portrait Artwork
You'll receive digital proofs of your prints to review. This ensures your family photo wall displays and albums are exactly how you envision them before they go to print.
Step 7: Printing & Studio Quality Inspection
After approval, your images are sent to a professional lab that specializes in high-quality family photo prints, albums, and wall art designed to last for generations. When your artwork arrives, we carefully inspect every piece to ensure your family portraits meet our quality standards before they ever reach your home.
Step 8: Delivery of Your Family Portrait Artwork
For our local clients, we personally deliver your finished artwork and help ensure it's ready to be displayed and enjoyed. Bringing your family portraits into your home is the final step, and one that you'll enjoy for years to come.
Your family portrait session is about more than just taking pictures; it's about preserving this season of life in a way you can see and enjoy every day. From the moment your session ends to the final delivery, every step is designed to transform your memories into custom family artwork that becomes part of your home and your story.
The goal isn't just beautiful photographs. It's artwork of your family you'll enjoy for generations to come.
