Senior year is a season unlike any other. It is the culmination of so many years of growing, changing, and becoming who you are. At Jean Johnson Portraits, it is our joy to help you celebrate this milestone and preserve who you are in this moment with portraits that will mean even more as the years go by. We thoughtfully design every senior portrait experience to reflect your personality, style, and vision. From planning your session and choosing what to wear to portrait day and selecting your finished artwork, we're here to guide you every step of the way.
Our Process
-
We begin every senior experience with an in-person design consultation where we'll get to know you and create a vision for your portraits. Together, we'll brainstorm locations, outfits, and meaningful details that reflect your personality and style. We'll also guide you through the portrait process, investment, and heirloom artwork options so you feel excited and prepared for what's ahead.
-
Hair and makeup? Outfit questions? Last-minute ideas? Anything and everything that comes up between your design consultation and portrait session, we're here to help. Together, we'll put the finishing touches on your plan so you feel prepared, confident, and excited for portrait day.
-
Your portrait day is all about celebrating you, and we want you to feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself. We’ll guide you through the entire session, so no posing experience is ever needed. With a private changing station, mirror, water, and plenty of guidance along the way, your only job is to relax, have fun, and enjoy the moment. And throughout your session, you’ll even get a peek at some of your portraits right off the camera!
-
Approximately one to two weeks after your portrait session, you'll return to the studio to see your portraits for the first time. This first reveal is one of our favorite parts of the experience, and don't be surprised if Mom sheds a tear or two! Together, we'll choose the portraits you love most, design your album, and select your favorite artwork to preserve this unforgettable season.
-
Whether your portraits are personally delivered or thoughtfully packaged, every piece is carefully inspected to ensure it meets our standards. Once your artwork is on the wall or your album is resting on the coffee table, there's only one thing left to do: enjoy it for years to come!

“I was honestly pretty nervous before my session, but Jean and Emily made me feel so comfortable and confident. Every time Jean turned the camera around to show me a few images during my session, I got even more excited to see the final gallery. The whole experience was so much fun, and I love that my portraits genuinely feel like me.”

Frequently Asked Questions
-
We recommend booking at least 4–8 weeks before your desired portrait date, especially if you're hoping for a summer or early fall session. These are some of our most popular months, and booking early gives you the greatest flexibility when choosing your date, season, and locations.
If you're working around a yearbook deadline or aren't sure which session or timing is right for you, we're always happy to help you find the perfect fit.
-
The best portraits happen when you feel comfortable and confident in what you're wearing. Most importantly, dress like you! We recommend bringing a variety of outfits that reflect your personal style while avoiding busy patterns, large logos, or clothing with too many words.
Gentlemen, we recommend bringing shirts ironed and wrinkle-free. Ladies, consider appropriate undergarments and straps. And of course, we're always happy to help with outfit ideas and specific questions during your design consultation and as we put the finishing touches on your portrait day.
-
Yes! Every senior receives both printed portraits and digital copies of the images they select, ranging from 1 to 50+ portraits depending on your collection. Your digital images are perfect for sharing, while your printed portraits are made to be enjoyed for years to come.
We offer a variety of heirloom artwork, including albums, wall art, small prints, and photo gifts that make meaningful keepsakes for you and your family.
-
We only deliver fully retouched portraits. Every image you choose to order will be carefully retouched by Jean herself. All of our editing is done in-house to ensure the highest quality, consistency, and personal attention to every portrait.
-
Many seniors arrive wondering if they'll know what to do in front of the camera, and by the end of their session they're laughing, relaxed, and having fun. We will guide you through every pose and expression while creating a comfortable, encouraging environment where you can simply be yourself. You don't have to know how to pose. That's our job! Your only job is to relax, enjoy the experience, and let us create portraits that feel natural and confident.
-
Absolutely! Your senior portraits should reflect who you are during this exciting season of life. Whether it's a sports uniform, musical instrument, letter jacket, dance shoes, or something else that's meaningful to you, we'd love to incorporate it into your session. These personal touches help tell the story of who you are and what has made your senior year special.

“You always want your child to have the best of what you can give. Jean does that every time. She captured my daughter for who she truly is and there is nothing like her photos anywhere.”
GENE, CLASS OF 2020 MOM
Dear Mom & Dad,
Thank you for allowing us to celebrate this unforgettable milestone with your family. It is one of the greatest joys of what we do to preserve these seasons of life as your children grow and change.
Senior year marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. While time moves forward far too quickly, my hope is that these portraits become more than beautiful photographs. I hope they become lasting reminders of who your senior is in this moment, and memories your family will cherish for years to come.
Sincerely,
Jean
