Who doesn’t LOVE fall color? It is debatably the most beautiful season to watch the colors change and the leaves fall. We love helping families capture memories during the fall season! In this blog, learn all about what to wear and the best dates to book your portrait session for the best fall color!

WHAT TO WEAR

This is many times a family’s biggest struggle with planning family portraits. Finding a collection of outfits that coordinate and make everyone feel their best can definitely be a challenge. We are always here to help you with these decisions, so here are a couple of pointers we like to give.

Colors - Think about wearing color themes that work well with fall foliage. For example, red and purple colors like maroon or burgundy are a perfect blend with the bright leaves. Also, blues and/or greens work well as a contrast against the fall color to make you pop from the background!

Weather - Fall can start to get a bit chilly in the northwest! While it’s fun to be adventurous, we want your family to be comfortable. Sweaters, denim jackets, and closed toed shoes are a great option! We recommend avoiding scarves or anything that hides your neckline.

Home Decor - Are you planning to hang these portraits on the wall? If so, think about the style of your home and the paint color of the walls you plan to hang these images. Perhaps, neutral colors like browns, cremes, or greens to match the northwest are the most timeless decision for the wall.

WHEN TO SCHEDULE YOUR PORTRAIT SESSION

The best time for fall color in the northwest is mid to late October! The leaves begin to turn early, but the brightest color is in those last two weeks of October before the leaves completely fall. Think about whether you prefer some fall color with some green still turning, or if you’d like some leaves on the ground for your portrait session. These are all things to think about before scheduling and we will help you find the best date between our calendars for your vision.
